Decline Limitations

Nettie Zan presents Decline Limitations, a solo exhibition of their animistic visual art series, the small gods of animals.
This body of work emerged during Zan’s five years living off-grid in the Ozark Wilderness, shaped by a deep intimacy with the natural world.
Each piece functions as a prayer of protection, a summoning of a deity, and an embodiment of bodily awareness. Zan considers these works personal petroglyphs—where texture and line are not just technique, but language.
The series speaks to the connective tissue of human experience: body, birth, pain, reaching, fire, celestial bodies, children. All canvases and paints are either found, donated, or reclaimed from the trash—gifts from the earth which Zan treats with reverence. Decline Limitations marks the culmination of this series.
After the show, Zan themself returns to the wild.
Zan's newest novel, At the Intersection of Hopelessness and Salvation, will also be available during gallery hours. The opening is Friday, May 2nd from 5-10 pm; artist talk on Saturday, May 10 from 3-5 pm, and the closing ritual is Sunday, May 18 from 6-8 pm. Private viewings available, you can reach Nettie at nettiezan.com or @listenmore.
