March 3 - March 25, 2023
Main Gallery
SEWING SEAMS TO CREATE STORIES was a solo exhibition by KE Griffin (Art by .E Lewis) that featured 20 large-scale, hanging textiles depicting the artist's creative journey and the journey of her ancestors to and in America.
KE Griffin is a creative, proactive and transformative textile and performing artist possessing the innovative capability to formulate fabrics and seams into wonderful stories. Her visionary process evokes and informs viewers by exploring tangible and verbal artforms. Her art quilts, abstracts and panels are assembled with adinkra symbols, feathers, gems, prints, patterns, and denim.
The exhibition opened in the Main Gallery on Friday, March 3, 2023 and was on display through March 25 with additional programming including a storytelling presentation on March 12 and make-and-take mini quilt block workshop on March 19. The creative collaboration with Vulpes Bastille Art Gallery and KE Griffin engaged guests with exploring a 2-year journey about an artrepreneur’s journey to create art. Guests explored 20 textiles, attended a musical presentation about four Afro-American jazz masters, and created a scrappy 5 x 5 mini quilt with a greet and meet conversation with the artist.
