From the Artist: Deep Fried Inferno is a culmination of research and artwork I've made over the past year reflecting on memes, internet aesthetics, and perceived race and gender online.
I use photographic printing and transferring processes of early 2000's cartoons, video games, and memes that reflect my identity online and offline. The images I work with reference internet pop culture but also reflect my queerness and identity as a mixed race artist. Through these images and installation processes I'm able to present to you my senior thesis show, Deep Fried Inferno.
The open call for exhibition proposals 2022 has been extended to February 19th. Please visit the 2022 Exhibition Proposals page on our website for instructions and guidelines.
Opening Friday December 3rd at 6-9pm
Join us this month for Converging Entities, a group exhibition featuring the work of Alana Givens, Elinore Noyes and Katie Powell.
Art parallels recycling: in the words of Nicolas Bourriaud, “what is an artist if not someone who deems that anything at all - including the foulest refuse - is capable of acquiring aesthetic value?” Alana Givens, Elinore Noyes, and Katie Powell use found and discarded objects in their work as a means to question value systems and consumer narratives. Each of these artists’ practice deals with space, found objects, collection, assemblage, and collage. Although each artist uses di erent subject matter, their methods are a vehicle for understanding the world materially. Converging Entities will create a conversation between three artists in order to explore how their practices transform remnants and their existing histories into contemporary and complex expressions.
Converging Entities explores three artists’ physical and psychological relationships to discards and remnants through the convergence of their individual bodies of work into one cohesive installation. In each artwork, emotional themes arise: they are vulnerable, intuitive, and physical. Each incorporates found objects as a direct link between the artist's body and the world. The exhibition will explore objecthood, the sentimentality of things, and the consumerist mentality that shapes our daily experience. The collaborative nature of the installation touches on the role of artists in society and reveals common undercurrents through the work.]
Open for viewing Saturdays 1-4pm thru May 22
